The Western Carolinas Local Section of the American Chemical Society (Local Section ID = 442) was chartered in 1946 and encompasses the following counties:
North Carolina: Buncombe, Madison, Henderson, Haywood, Transylvania, Jackson, Macon.
South Carolina: Greenville, Spartanburg, Cherokee, Union, Newberry, Laurense, Saluda, Greenwood, Abbeville, Anderson, Oconnee, Pickens, Jackson, Macon.
